What Not to Do at A Footy Game
It is amazing what drunk guys will do:
The 35-year-old was drinking at the Wanderer’s Football Club at Katanning, south of Perth, on Saturday night before he fell asleep after a trip to the toilet.
He woke up in the club changerooms.
"When he woke up, the lights were off and the doors were locked," police spokeswoman Ros Weatherall said.
He allegedly tried to attract attention by blowing an umpire’s whistle, putting his cigarette lighter under a smoke detector and then lighting a fire under a door into the bar area.
When this failed, he packed rubbish under an exit door that led onto the oval and set it alight.
Two Katanning police officers discovered the subsequent blaze while on patrol.
When firemen arrived, the man was allegedly discovered behind the burning door.
The fire caused $3000 damage.
The man, who has been charged with criminal damage by fire, will appear in the Katanning Magistrates Court on Thursday.
